Dear San Diego,
It’s coming down to the final few months left in this long stadium saga here in San Diego. We have an amazing opportunity for you to help save the Chargers and keep Comic-Con in San Diego.
Right now, we are signatures for the “Chargers’ Citizens’ Initiative’ and we need 50 volunteers to help.
Email your name and phone number to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in helping out.
If you need more info, read on…
You don’t need to commit to any specific hours per week or number of signatures gathered. We are just asking for any time and energy you can offer to help us get the required 66,447 valid signatures from registered San Diego City voters by mid-June.
Maybe you’re going to a Chargers event and you can talk to other Chargers fans about the issue and gather signatures while having fun. Perhaps you are part of a group or organization that can work together to gather signatures at another venue. Maybe you own a business and would like to have an official signature gathering effort at your bar, restaurant or elsewhere. Whatever the case, we need your help.
The Chargers’ Citizens’ Initiative is our best shot at keeping the Chargers in San Diego by opening up their preferred Downtown site and creating financing options by leveraging a tax on tourists. It also provides potential expanded convention center space, which will help us retain Comic-Con and attract new cultural, music and other events to San Diego.
If you aren’t familiar with the Chargers’ Citizens’ Initiative and fully endorsed by the San Diego Stadium Coalition, here are some important points to consider:
- Creates a clear path to create a convention center/stadium using ONLY a tax on tourists
- Requires tourists to pay their fair share for infrastructure and public services
- Provides a critical CEQA exemption to the Downtown stadium/convention center site
- Helps San Diego retain the Chargers, Comic-Con and other high profile events
- Generates millions of dollars for the general fund, which could be used to address infrastructure needs
This is it, the final chapter in the Chargers stadium saga.
Together we WILL get this done. However, we certainly can’t do it without your help.
Join the movement today.
